Restriction of innate Tγδ17 cell plasticity by an AP-1 regulatory axis

Nature Immunology, Published online: 27 June 2025; doi:10.1038/s41590-025-02206-7

Ciofani and colleagues examine the plasticity of Tγδ17 cells in the gut, where they identify a role for the AP-1 transcription factors JUNB and FOSL2 in restricting type 1 plasticity.

Summary

Ciofani et al. in Nature Immunology (June 2025) investigated the adaptability of Tγδ17 cells within the gut. Their research revealed that the AP-1 transcription factors, specifically JUNB and FOSL2, play a critical role in limiting the cells’ ability to transform into type 1-like cells. This control mechanism regulated by JUNB and FOSL2 restricts the plasticity of Tγδ17 cells within the intestinal environment, suggesting potential implications for gut immunity and inflammation.
