Microbiota-driven antitumour immunity mediated by dendritic cell migration – New Study

Microbiota-driven antitumour immunity mediated by dendritic cell migration

Summary

The gut microbiota plays a crucial role in shaping anti-tumor immunity. Specific gut bacteria stimulate the migration of dendritic cells (DCs) from the gut to tumor sites and tumor-draining lymph nodes. These migrated DCs, activated by microbial signals, prime T cells to effectively target and destroy tumor cells. This microbiota-driven DC migration and T cell activation are essential for the efficacy of cancer therapies, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Manipulating the gut microbiota composition can therefore enhance anti-tumor immune responses and improve cancer treatment outcomes. Essentially, the gut bugs help mobilize immune forces to fight cancer.
