Two Funded Positions Starting Fall 2025, Spring 2026, or Fall 2026

The Biological Materials, Bioinspiration & Biomechanics (BMBB) Lab in the Department of Medical Engineering at the University of South Florida (USF) is offering two fully funded PhD positions. We are seeking motivated, talented individuals eager to contribute to interdisciplinary research at the interface of biomechanics, materials science and engineering, and biology.

Research Areas of Focus:

  • Nano-biomechanics of Aortic Disease (Studying extracellular and intracellular factors influencing tissue degeneration).
  • Toughening Mechanisms in Biological Materials (Understanding nature’s strategies for damage resistance).
  • Biomimetic Design of Functional Materials (Translating natural material solutions into engineered systems).

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (thesis-based) or equivalent in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
  • Strong academic record and research performance.
  • Publication experience is highly desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
