Immunotherapy for diffuse gastric cancer: challenges and new avenues
Summary
Immunotherapy offers promise for treating diffuse gastric cancer (DGC), a particularly aggressive subtype with limited therapeutic options. However, DGC presents unique challenges, including low immunogenicity and a suppressive tumor microenvironment. Research focuses on overcoming these hurdles. Strategies include targeting immune checkpoints like PD-1/PD-L1, enhancing tumor immunogenicity through chemotherapy or radiation, and adoptive cell therapies like CAR-T cells. Combining immunotherapy with other treatments and developing personalized approaches based on individual tumor characteristics are also being explored. While still in early stages, these novel avenues offer hope for improving outcomes in DGC patients.
