Metabolic alterations driven by LDHA in CD8 + T cells promote immune evasion and therapy resistance in NSCLC
Summary
Lung cancer cells often evade the immune system by manipulating CD8+ T cells, the body’s primary cancer-fighting soldiers. This research highlights the crucial role of LDHA, an enzyme involved in energy production, within these T cells. In non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), LDHA activity is increased in CD8+ T cells, leading to metabolic changes that hinder their ability to kill cancer cells. Specifically, LDHA promotes the production of inhibitory molecules and reduces the T cells’ effector function. Ultimately, this LDHA-driven metabolic shift contributes to immune evasion by the cancer cells and reduces the effectiveness of cancer therapies. Targeting LDHA may therefore be a promising strategy to enhance the immune response against NSCLC.
