Hitchhiking albumin to STING tumours

Hitchhiking albumin to STING tumours

Summary

Researchers have developed a novel drug delivery system targeting STING-activated tumors. By attaching a STING agonist (a drug that activates the STING pathway, boosting the immune response against cancer) to albumin, a naturally occurring protein in the bloodstream, they can “hitchhike” it to tumors. Tumor cells often uptake albumin, effectively concentrating the STING agonist specifically within the tumor microenvironment. This targeted delivery minimizes systemic exposure and potential side effects, while maximizing the therapeutic impact on STING-expressing cancer cells. Initial studies demonstrate enhanced anti-tumor activity and improved survival rates in preclinical models.
