CD99-mediated immunological synapse formation potentiates CAR-T cell function
Summary
CD99, a cell surface protein, plays a crucial role in enhancing the efficacy of CAR-T cell therapy. By facilitating the formation of a stable immunological synapse (IS) between CAR-T cells and tumor cells, CD99 promotes efficient and sustained signaling. This enhanced synapse leads to increased CAR-T cell activation, cytokine production, and ultimately, improved tumor cell killing. Studies suggest that CD99 interaction strengthens the interaction between CAR-T cells and target cells, amplifying their cytotoxic potential. Targeting or modulating CD99 could be a promising strategy to boost the effectiveness of CAR-T cell therapies against various cancers.
