AR+TREM2+ macrophage induced pathogenic immunosuppression promotes prostate cancer progression – New Study

AR+TREM2+ macrophage induced pathogenic immunosuppression promotes prostate cancer progression

Summary

Prostate cancer progression can be fueled by a specific type of macrophage called AR+TREM2+ macrophages. These macrophages, characterized by the androgen receptor (AR) and triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2) expression, create an immunosuppressive environment within the tumor. This immunosuppression weakens the body’s natural ability to fight the cancer, allowing the tumor to grow and spread more easily. Essentially, AR+TREM2+ macrophages contribute to prostate cancer malignancy by suppressing the immune system’s anti-tumor response, thereby promoting cancer progression. Targeting these macrophages could be a potential therapeutic strategy.
