Human cancer-targeted immunity via transgenic hematopoietic stem cell progeny
Summary
Researchers have developed a novel approach to target cancer using modified hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). They engineer HSCs to express a tumor-specific T cell receptor (TCR), enabling their progeny, immune cells, to recognize and attack cancer cells. This transgenic approach aims to generate a persistent, cancer-specific immune response from within the patient’s own body. Studies in preclinical models demonstrate that these engineered HSCs successfully differentiate into functional T cells that can effectively target and eliminate tumor cells. This strategy holds promise for developing long-lasting and personalized immunotherapies against various cancers.
