Bacillus Calmette-Guerin induces CD8+ T cell infiltration and suppresses tumor progression in microsatellite stable colorectal cancer by downregulating ARID1A

Summary

Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) treatment demonstrates promise in combating microsatellite stable (MSS) colorectal cancer. The study found that BCG promotes the infiltration of CD8+ T cells into the tumor microenvironment, leading to suppressed tumor progression. This beneficial effect is linked to BCG’s ability to downregulate ARID1A expression within the tumor. Essentially, BCG modifies the tumor by reducing ARID1A, which then allows for enhanced immune cell activity and a slowing of cancer growth in MSS colorectal cancer. This suggests BCG as a potential therapeutic approach for this specific type of colorectal cancer.
