Targeting ribosomes reprograms the tumour microenvironment and augments cancer immunotherapy
Summary
Targeting ribosomes, the protein synthesis machinery of cells, can significantly alter the tumor microenvironment (TME) and enhance cancer immunotherapy. Dysfunctional ribosomes in cancer cells and TME components contribute to immunosuppression. By modulating ribosome function, researchers can reprogram the TME to be more immune-friendly, increasing the infiltration and activation of immune cells, like T cells. This approach reduces immunosuppressive factors, leading to improved response rates and effectiveness of immunotherapeutic interventions. Essentially, targeting ribosomes acts as a TME-modulating strategy that sensitizes tumors to immunotherapy, offering a promising avenue for cancer treatment.
