(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher in Modeling Anthropometric Variability Using Deep Machine Learning

To design human body models that reflect population variability—such as differences in age, sex, height, and BMI—SSMs are essential. These models describe how such covariates relate to 3D anatomical shapes, including the body’s outer form, bones, and internal organs.

Traditionally, building SSMs requires extensive manual work, including segmentation and landmarking of CT or MRI images. However, recent advances in AI/ML make it possible to automate much of this process. Pilot studies, including master’s theses conducted in collaboration with other Chalmers departments, have already shown promising results using predictive deep learning on medical images.

The aim of this postdoc project is to establish a pipeline for (semi-)automated segmentation and landmarking of full-body skeletal structures. Starting from manually processed data and existing models, you will process a large dataset of medical images to extract skeletal geometries. These will be standardized using mesh morphing techniques and expressed through a common template mesh (VIVA+), developed by our research group. Once aligned, the data can be statistically analyzed to produce models that predict skeletal geometry as a function of key covariates.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc position in Cosmic ray impact on superconducting qubits

The Wallenberg Center for Quantum Technology is a 12-year initiative to develop a quantum computer based on superconducting circuits. Part of the project is also to solve specific problems related to this goal. A key challenge in this effort is mitigating errors in qubits (i.e. the building blocks of the quantum computer) —caused by ionizing radiation from cosmic rays and radioactive materials— which tend to be correlated and cannot be corrected using existing error correction methods.

This project aims to better understand these radiation-induced errors and develop strategies to address them. It is a collaboration with two Canadian partners—Laurentian University/SNOLAB and the University of Waterloo/IQC—so the position will include both short- and long-term research visits to Canada.

(16) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral fellow in Computer Vision and Machine Learning

In recent years, generative neural network models for creation of photo-realistic images have become increasingly popular. Their training results in a low-dimensional latent space representation of a distribution from which new examples can be drawn and images be generated. To be able to control and manipulate the images, one aims for a disentangled latent representation, so that different qualities of the resulting images are kept separate. For example, the shape of an object can be separated from its material properties, the viewing direction and the overall illumination. In this project, we will go one step further and develop disentangled latent representations, not just for individual objects, but for full three-dimensional scenes with multiple objects that might change over time. The goal is to provide support for operations like adding, modifying and removing objects, changing scene conditions, modelling scene dynamics, as well as automatically complete missing parts of the 3D scene.
