Two-Part Treatment Developed to Overcome Antimicrobial Resistance

Summary
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a long-standing global health threat, where microbes develop resistance to medications designed to kill them. This resistance arises from genetic mutations and adaptations that allow microbes to survive exposure to antimicrobials. Overuse and misuse of these drugs, both in humans and animals, accelerate this process. AMR leads to ineffective treatments, prolonged illnesses, increased healthcare costs, and higher mortality rates. Addressing AMR requires a multifaceted approach including responsible antimicrobial use, improved sanitation and hygiene, development of new drugs, and increased surveillance of resistant microbes.
