Targeting the roots of myeloid malignancies with T cell receptors – New Study
Targeting the roots of myeloid malignancies with T cell receptors
Summary
Targeting myeloid malignancies, like leukemia, remains challenging due to disease heterogeneity and relapse risks. A promising approach focuses on using T cell receptors (TCRs) to redirect T cells to specifically attack leukemia cells. Researchers are identifying novel myeloid-specific antigens, including intracellular proteins, that are presented on the cell surface via MHC molecules. High-affinity TCRs are then engineered to recognize these targets. This strategy aims to eradicate even small populations of leukemia-initiating cells, the “roots” of the disease, that are often resistant to conventional therapies. This targeted immunotherapy offers the potential for durable remissions and improved outcomes for patients with myeloid malignancies.
