Clonal diversity shapes the tumour microenvironment leading to distinct immunotherapy responses in metastatic urothelial carcinoma
Summary
Metastatic urothelial carcinoma (mUC) exhibits varying responses to immunotherapy, and clonal diversity within tumors plays a significant role in this variability. Different tumor cell clones, arising from genetic mutations, interact differently with the surrounding tumor microenvironment (TME). This leads to variations in immune cell infiltration, immune checkpoint expression, and overall immune activity within the TME. High clonal diversity can result in a more heterogeneous TME, potentially hindering effective immunotherapy. Understanding the clonal architecture and its impact on the TME is crucial for predicting immunotherapy outcomes and developing personalized treatment strategies for mUC.
