A ferritin-targeted biohybrid triggering ferroptosis immunotherapy via activating endogenous iron and replenishing exogenous iron simultaneously
Summary
This research introduces a novel biohybrid nanoparticle that combats cancer by triggering ferroptosis and enhancing immunotherapy. The nanoparticles target ferritin, the body’s iron storage protein, simultaneously activating endogenous iron release to induce ferroptosis within cancer cells and delivering exogenous iron to further amplify this process. This ferroptosis induction enhances the release of tumor-associated antigens, which, in turn, stimulates the immune system. By combining iron-mediated cell death with immune activation, this biohybrid offers a promising therapeutic strategy for effective cancer treatment by creating a synergistic effect.
