A novel GM-CSF-encoding oncolytic adenovirus induces profound autophagy and promotes viral replication to enhance anti-tumor efficacy
Summary
A genetically modified oncolytic adenovirus expressing GM-CSF enhances anti-tumor efficacy by inducing significant autophagy. This autophagy, unexpectedly, promotes viral replication within cancer cells, leading to increased cell lysis and tumor destruction. The GM-CSF further stimulates the immune system to target remaining cancer cells. The combined effect of increased viral replication and immunotherapy driven by GM-CSF results in a potent anti-cancer strategy, offering a novel approach to cancer treatment leveraging the unexpected link between autophagy and oncolytic viral therapy.
