EchoBack-CAR T cells: a sonogenetic solution to the persistent challenges of solid tumor immunotherapy
Summary
EchoBack-CAR T cells offer a novel approach to solid tumor immunotherapy by addressing key limitations of traditional CAR T-cell therapies. Utilizing sonogenetics, these cells are activated by ultrasound, allowing for precise spatial and temporal control over CAR T-cell activity within the tumor microenvironment. This “switchable” system enhances specificity, reducing off-target toxicity and systemic cytokine release syndrome. By enabling targeted activation, EchoBack-CAR T cells aim to overcome the challenges of limited tumor penetration, immunosuppressive environments, and tumor heterogeneity that hinder the effectiveness of CAR T-cell therapies against solid tumors. This technology holds potential for safer and more effective cancer treatments.
