Over the past two decades, research has investigated the relationship between sex and immune responses. Studies suggest that women generally exhibit stronger immune responses than men. This difference is often attributed to hormonal influences, particularly estrogen, and genetic factors related to the X chromosome. However, these enhanced responses can also make women more susceptible to autoimmune diseases. Current research aims to further clarify the complex interplay between sex, hormones, genetics, and environmental factors to develop more personalized and effective immunotherapies for both sexes.
