New data from baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) support the existence of a large, underdense region, or cosmic void, surrounding our local universe. This void’s presence could explain the discrepancy in Hubble constant measurements (Hubble tension), the disagreement between local measurements and those from the early universe. Researchers have theorized the existence of our “local void” for some time, and this new BAO analysis provides further evidence that this void exists.
