(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Pediatrics
Candidates with interests in social network analysis, data informatics, and developing, and implementing applied research projects aimed at improving reach and effectiveness of behavioral health services for young people are encouraged to apply. The fellow will actively participate in implementation, data analysis, and dissemination of findings (manuscripts, presentations) from NIH studies. Additional opportunities include contributing to studies on youth-participatory and community-engaged research as well as health informatics. The fellow will receive mentorship from faculty investigators toward the development of an independent program of research. Training will be provided in project design, grant writing, and research ethics. Salary and benefits are commensurate with NIH rates based on training and years of experience.

This emerging new area of research focuses on understanding the role of nerve activity on physiological events. This includes signal processing and both time-series and frequency domain analysis of physiological recordings including ECG and nerve recordings. This data is used to investigate the cardiovascular effects of altered vagal tone and sympathetic nerve activity.

A full-time Post-Doctoral Research position is available in the Department of Neurological Surgery. The candidate will assist the principal investigator in conducting research on pediatric brain tumors, primarily pineoblastoma. Our research is focused on examining the molecular mechanisms of tumor progression and the identification of novel drug targets using genomic and proteomic techniques as well as human stem cell models. This position is funded by the Alzheimer’s Disease and Aging Cohort Consortium (ADACC) U24 grant (Wake Forest PI: Dr. Michelle Mielke, IU mPI: Dr. Nicole Fowler) and will involve cutting-edge research in Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders. The primary goal of this research project is to establish a national consortium, the Alzheimer’s Diagnosis in Older Adults with Chronic Conditions (ADACC) Network. This consortium will consist of multidisciplinary investigators dedicated to developing evidence-based strategies for the use and implementation of biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) in older patients with multiple chronic conditions and cognitive impairment.
This clinical research-focused position involves working with clinical, imaging, biomarker, and genetics data across multiple studies. Expertise in biostatistics and familiarity with handling multiple data types, both cross-sectionally and longitudinally, are critical for success.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Pathology & Laboratory Medicine
The Dementia Laboratory in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Indiana University is seeking an outstanding candidate for a postdoctoral position. The selected individual will participate in research focused on the molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration in diseases caused by TDP-43 misfolding. The lab will also continue exploring TDP-43 in its hybrid form as associated with annexin A11. These research projects are funded by the NINDS and will be carried out under the direction of Drs. Kathy L. Newell and Laura Cracco. The studies will be carried out using methodologies of proteomics and genetics. Protein extraction from the brain tissue of individuals with frontotemporal dementias, TDP-43 characterization by biochemical methods and transmission electron microscopy will take place in parallel with neuropathological and structural studies.
The Dementia Laboratory has active collaborations with national and international laboratories including the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (Cambridge, UK) and ICGEB (Trieste, Italy). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research, with the potential for publication in high impact factor journals.

Drs. Meichen Yu and Andrew Saykin from the Indiana Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (IADRC) at Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM), have immediate full-time openings for one or more outstanding, highly motivated post-doctoral research fellows with special interest in human connectomics in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The Lab’s overarching goals are 1) to achieve a better understanding of the brain network and neurophysiological mechanisms leading to AD, 2) to improve early detection and longitudinal monitoring by combining neuroimaging (i.e., MRI, PET and MEG) and fluid (i.e., CSF and plasma) biomarkers and 3) to analyze genomic data to identify novel targets for diagnostic use and therapeutic intervention.
Fellows will work on research problems using rich data sets and leading-edge analytic approaches supported by multiple NIH grants (R, U and P programs). Fellows will take the lead in preparing manuscripts for publication and contribute to major grant applications while collaborating on other projects as part of a multidisciplinary team science effort. Fellows are also encouraged to write fellowship or other early career appropriate grant applications commensurate with their level of professional development. Special opportunities afforded by this fellowship include experience working with data and investigators in the Genetics Core of the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI), IADRC, IU Center for Neuroimaging (CFN), Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (CCBB), and multiple NIH sponsored multicenter programs including the Alzheimer’s Disease Genetics Consortium (ADGC), Alzheimer’s Disease Sequencing Project (ADSP), Centrally-linked longitudinal peripheral biomarkers of AD in multi- ethnic populations (CLEAR-AD), Artificial Intelligence for Alzheimer’s Disease (AI4AD), Alzheimer’s Disease Metabolomics Consortium (ADMC), and the Accelerating Medicines Partnership for AD (AMP-AD), and Model Organism Development & Evaluation for Late-Onset Alzheimer’s Disease (MODEL-AD).

(21) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow – Neurology – Obeid Epilepsy Lab
A post-doctoral research position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Makram Obeid. The postdoctoral fellow will test research hypotheses in rodent seizure models and cell cultures, primarily utilizing molecular and cell biology techniques. The Obeid lab investigates the mechanisms of seizure emergence and their effects on cognitive and behavioral neurodevelopment in rodent seizure models. Our primary goal is to identify molecular targets for novel treatment strategies. The laboratory employs a variety of molecular techniques, longterm continuous EEG monitoring in rodents, and neurobehavioral testing panels. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to independently plan and conduct experiments under the guidance of the PI, using molecular and cellular biology techniques that include, but are not limited to, cell culture, western blotting, PCR, gene knockdown and overexpression, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry. Laboratory work will involve animal handling and the potential participation in neurobehavioral testing. Work may also involve electrode implantation surgery and EEG recording in rodents (initially semi-independently under the PI’s supervision). The postdoctoral fellow is expected to collect and analyze data, summarize findings, and participate/assist in the preparation of scientific manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and possibly grants. The duties also include training lab personal, participating in laboratory and equipment maintenance, ordering supplies as needed, performing literature review, updating research protocols and design, and potentially developing new ideas that serve the research goals set by the PI.
