(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Associate – Computational Biology and Bioinformatics – Qiu Lab

Multiple postdoctoral researcher positions in Artifical Intelligence (AI) for Computational Biology  and Bioinformatics are available in the Qiu lab at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Dr. Yuchi Qiu (https://yuchiqiu.github.io)  is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics (BCMG), and a faculty member in the Center for Bioinformatics and Quantitative Biology (CBQB) at UIC.

The successful candidate will conduct computational research at the intersection of AI, bioinformatics, and mathematical modeling, applying these methods to study systems biology, single-cell genomics data analysis, and protein design. The candidates will work in a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment, engaging in close collaborations with experimentalists in fields such as developmental, cell, and cancer biology, and protein/drug design. Renewal of the appointment is based on performance and the availability of funding.

UIC offers a strong and supportive interdisciplinary research environment by bringing experts in computational biology, bioinformatics, and experimental biology. It is one of the institutes with earliest efforts in bioinformatics with one of the earliest PhD bioinformatics programs in the country in 2003. BCMG is a basic science department in College of Medicine at UIC, where faculty employ cutting-edge molecular and genetics approaches to explore a wide array of fundamental questions, including structural biology, drug development, biotech, signaling, developmental, cell and cancer biology. CBQB is committed to lead major discoveries in disease mechanisms, novel diagnostics and therapeutics, as well as development of devices and algorithms that will improve health, with lasting impact to the society.

A postdoctoral associate position is available in the laboratory led by Preetish Kadur Lakshminarasimha Murthy, PhD in the Department of Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The candidate will utilize a cutting-edge toolset (Murthy et al. Nature 2022) of single cell and spatial techniques, CRISPR-based genome editing and model systems of human organoid culture, murine models, and lung cancer patient samples. The candidate will aim to identify novel cell types and mechanisms responsible for lung disease progression and thereby opening up avenues for drug discovery and development. Project success will lead to collaborations with new or existing biotech and pharma partners to increase translation of laboratory findings. The ideal candidate would be productive during the early years of the project to position themselves for a K99 submission should they choose an academic path, or an internship/long-term position in biotech or pharma should they choose the industry path.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate I (Hourly) – Center for Dissemination and Implementation Science

The University of Illinois Chicago’s Center for Dissemination and Implementation Science is seeking facilitators for the IMARA for Black Male Caregivers and Girls Empowerment (IMAGE) study. A major component of our study is engaging Black families and communities in research using culturally sensitive methods. IMAGE aims to study the implementation and delivery of the IMAGE intervention and enhance community-based organizations’ capacity to provide prevention programming for Black girls (aged 13-18 years) and their male caregivers (18+). IMAGE is funded by the National Institutes of Minority Health Disparities, R01MD018929.

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Visiting Research Associate-Jane Addams College of Social Work

This position involves assisting with a range of research support tasks (participant payments, scheduling, data collection, and data reporting) for a behavioral health workforce development and education center at the University of Illinois Chicago. The center is focused on developing and providing training for behavioral health workers in Illinois and will engage community partners and behavioral health providers to plan, implement, and evaluate training initiatives. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoctoral Research Associate – Brodie Lab

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Mark Brodie in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Research in the lab focuses on the actions of chronic alcohol exposure and alcohol withdrawal on the ventral tegmental area (VTA), and electrophysiological, molecular, and behavioral neuroadaptation of the VTA during withdrawal.
