Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Transportation Networks and Climate Impacts Analysis
The Multimodal Mobility Systems Lab at UBC Civil Engineering Vancouver is seeking a full-time postdoctoral researcher. Our group investigates questions about how long-distance, multimodal transportation systems and their components operate, and how to plan systems that are responsive and resilient to extreme events and are adaptive to the growing impacts of climate change. The selected candidate will characterize the impacts, on community connectivity and accessibility, of transportation disruptions due to natural hazard and extreme events. The work will require expertise in transportation operations and network modelling, accessibility analysis, data analysis (statistics and/or machine learning methods), and spatial mapping. Because the work will involve multiple years of daily disruptions data and network analysis, the candidate should have a strong background in network modelling and coding.
The selected candidate will also have excellent leadership ability/potential and strong communication skills. Their primary responsibilities will be to 1) work both independently and with other researchers, including mentoring graduate student researchers, 2) disseminate high-quality outputs in the forms of journal publications, conference presentations, and reports, and 3) lead project administration, including communications with research partners and project stakeholders, and deliverables. The candidate should be independent and have the ability to develop and pursue new, creative research ideas. The position is funded through the NSERC Discovery Grants program.
Deadline : 31 August 2025

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Wound Healing
The Granville Laboratory in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) Postdoctoral Fellow in wound healing and molecular biology for a two-year term with possibility of extension. The successful applicant will train directly under the supervision of Dr. David Granville, PhD, and will have an opportunity to develop their leadership skills in the laboratory by participating in overseeing the research activities of graduate students, undergraduate students, and/or a technician. Applicants with interests in drug development and entrepreneurship are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Granville Laboratory is located within the University of British Columbia (UBC) International Collaboration for Repair Discoveries (ICORD) Centre at the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. More information on the Granville Laboratory can be found at www.granzymes.com.
Granzymes are a family of serine proteases with 5 members identified in humans. With the exception of Granzyme A and Granzyme B, very little is known about the other 3 proteases, providing many opportunities to carve out a niche for drug development, patents, and publications. The successful applicant will have an opportunity to develop their leadership skills on projects related to advancing natural plant-derived compounds and/or repurposing clinically-approved drugs for indications related to wound healing. The Granville research program spans basic molecular biology and biochemistry through to target validation, proof-of-concept in animal and human models, and collaborations with clinicians and industry. Dr. Granville’s laboratory has expertise in established mouse models of chronic inflammatory diseases related to wound healing, aging, injury, and inflammation. The Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) will be involved in translational research investigating the pathophysiological roles of granzymes and/or other targets in the context of wound healing, inflammation, injury, and/or dermatologic conditions. The PDF will be responsible for conceiving, designing, and implementing studies to further elucidate mechanisms of disease through the use of in vitro and in vivo models. The position is highly translational and well-suited for PDFs seeking greater involvement in taking basic bench research discoveries through to clinical application and potentially commercialization.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow – CFD Modeling for Hydrogen Combustion
The ideal candidate will be expected to perform the following activities: a) Perform preliminary flow analysis of reacting methane, hydrogen, and hydrogen/methane blends in 15 MW boilers and prepare a report (thermal power and heat transfer analysis at large-scale); b) Collaborate with UBC technicians in acquiring data from our 15 MW boilers, analyze the acquired data, and prepare a report; c) Prepare a CFD model of a boiler burner for combustion analysis, apply reacting flow models, perform computation, study propensity to flash-back, calculate noise emissions, assess carbon oxides and NOx emissions for stable operation, and prepare a report; d) Collaborate with experimental groups to prepare a model of the existing lab-scale burner for numerical simulation purposes and perform simulations to understand flash-back dynamics as well as study noise and pollutants emissions for stable operation of the burner; e) Use high-resolution experimental data (provided by the group performing experiments) to improve the existing combustion models for unsteady CFD simulations of the burner operating with hydrogen, methane, and their blends for the prediction of flash-back; f) Use experimentally developed models to perform CFD simulations, analyze data, develop knowledge regarding flash-back, and use this knowledge to propose new burner design to eliminate flash-back; and g) Prepare a final project report.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Drug Safety and Effectiveness
The Post-Doctoral Fellow with the Hohl Research Group in the UBC Department of Emergency Medicine will conduct drug safety and effectiveness evaluation of treatments used for opioid poisoning in emergency departments using data derived from the Canadian Emergency Department Research Network. The incumbent may also have the opportunity to participate in real-world drug safety and surveillance research using new adverse drug event data being generated by a technological intervention designed to improve clinical communication of patients’ adverse drug events.
The successful applicant will join the Canadian Emergency Department Research Network (CEDRN) coordinating centre for a newly launched research network in Emergency Medicine. This network will seek, as one of its first priorities, to harmonize data collection on treatments and harm reduction strategies used in Canadian emergency departments in 9 provinces for patients presenting with opioid-related harms. This new clinical dataset will be among the first to capture in-hospital treatments and services which are not available through Canadian administrative datasets. The incumbent will have the primary responsibility to co-design and lead analyses of these data for research, quality improvement and surveillance purposes. The incumbent will apply appropriate methods to aid in the creation of a learning health system around opioid-related emergency care in BC and nationally.
The successful applicant will also participate in research opportunities through a thriving adverse drug event research group with a long history of work on this topic. The research group has developed a novel software application called ActionADE that supports the documentation and communication of adverse drug events to providers in other health sectors. The app also supports new federal adverse drug reaction reporting requirements. They will lead studies using ActionADE data generated as a by-product of safer clinical care to help develop a new approach for post-market drug safety surveillance.
