The transcription complex p52–ETS1 is essential for germinal center formation – New Study
Nature Immunology, Published online: 25 July 2025; doi:10.1038/s41590-025-02236-1
Tergaonkar and colleagues identify a noncanonical interaction between the NF-κB transcription factor family member p52 and the ETS family member ETS1. They find that the p52–ETS1 complex is required for splenic germinal center B cell formation and T cell-dependent antibody responses.
Summary
Tergaonkar et al. in Nature Immunology reveal a novel interaction between the transcription factors p52 (NF-κB family) and ETS1. Their research demonstrates that this unconventional p52–ETS1 complex is critical for the development of splenic germinal center B cells, vital components of the adaptive immune response. This complex is also shown to be essential for robust T cell-dependent antibody production. These findings highlight the importance of this specific protein interaction in regulating key aspects of humoral immunity.
