Master and PhD Recruitment and Postdoctoral Recruitment of the Ultrafast Photonics Research Group of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China

Master, PhD and Postdoctoral Recruitment of the Ultrafast Photonics Research Group of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China

1. Introduction to the Ultrafast Photonics Laboratory
The Ultrafast Photonics Research Lab is headed by Professor Nie Mingming, a national young talent. It is mainly based on the “Double First-Class” university – University of Electronic Science and Technology of China and the “Information and Communication Engineering” double first-class A+ key discipline, and is one of the core components of the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Fiber Optic Sensing and Communication. The Ministry of Education Key Laboratory is led by Professor Rao Yunjiang, an IEEE/OSA/SPIE Fellow, Yangtze River Scholar, and Outstanding Young Scientist. It has many national young talents, has deep accumulation in the field of optical frequency combs and their applications, and has a great international influence. It has undertaken a number of national, ministerial, defense and industry research projects, including major key projects, with a total funding of more than 100 million yuan. More than 400 research papers have been published in well-known journals such as Nature, Nature Photonics, Nature Communications, and Advanced Science. The team has won many national, defense, and provincial scientific research awards. It has built 6 prototypes of 2 types of C+L band fiber laser frequency combs and microcavity integrated frequency combs, and developed a series of excellent and internationally leading fiber optic sensing systems such as uDAS and uLOFS. It has cooperated with Huawei, Zhongtian, Zhijiang Laboratory, and China Academy of Engineering Physics, and has achieved the application and promotion of many technologies and successful industrialization. The results won the first prize of the 2022 China Optical Engineering Society Technological Invention Award and the first prize of the China Geophysical Society Science and Technology Progress Award. The
Ultrafast Photonics Laboratory mainly studies optical signal source devices and related sciences, and conducts exploration work on photon control and Internet of Things technologies. The research content runs through cutting-edge basic research and applied basic research. Main research directions: functionalized microcavity optical frequency combs, optical fibers and solid-state laser devices; ultra-sensitive optical point sensors and distributed sensing systems.
The laboratory has close cooperation with many first-class universities such as the University of Colorado Boulder, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the University of California, Los Angeles, and Tsinghua University and Nanjing University in China. The research group has a rigorous, democratic, open academic atmosphere, an active atmosphere, and harmonious relationships. It is oriented to solving the core pain points in the field and serving the major needs of the country. We sincerely welcome all people with lofty ideals to join.

2. Introduction to the head of the research group
Professor Nie Mingming, professor of the School of Information and Communication Engineering of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, doctoral supervisor, and a candidate for the National High-level Young Talent Program. He graduated from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China with a bachelor’s degree in 2013 and a doctorate from Tsinghua University in 2018. From 2018 to 2024, he conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Colorado Boulder (one of the birthplaces of the Nobel Prize-winning optical frequency comb). In recent years, through theory and experiment, he has revealed the generation and dynamics of frequency combs under multi-effect coupling, pioneered the all-fiber frequency comb architecture, and invented the all-fiber composite cavity frequency comb keying technology. He has published more than 20 papers as the first author or corresponding author in journals such as Nature Communications, Light: Science & Applications, and Nanophotonics. He has been invited to give invited reports at CLEO conferences many times. He holds 3 US invention patents and 5 Chinese invention patents. He serves as a guest editor of Frontiers and a reviewer for 7 authoritative journals under Nature, OSA, and IEEE. For details, please see https://faculty.uestc.edu.cn/niemingming/zh_CN/index.htm
