      Physician, Head of the Center for Organ Transplantation with professorial rank job with University of Lausanne (UNIL) – (Jobs)


      UNIL is a leading international teaching and research institution, with over 5,000 employees and 17,500 students split between its Dorigny campus, CHUV and Epalinges sites. The Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM) and the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) are inviting applications for a position of:

      Physician, Head of the Center for Organ Transplantation (CTO)

      with professorial rank of Associate Professor / Full Professor

      Within the Department of Surgery (DC)

      Location: Lausanne, Switzerland

      In collaboration with partner services at the CHUV, the CTO provides expertise in various areas of organ transplantation: transplant surgery, transplant coordination and medicine, radiological procedures, kidney transplantation (adult and pediatric), heart transplantation (adult and pediatric), lung transplantation, liver transplantation (medical aspects), pancreas transplantation (medical aspects), immunology and infectious diseases in transplantation, immunosuppressive medication and infection prevention, laboratory medicine, clinical pathology (biopsies, etc.) in transplantation, as well as psychology/psychiatry in transplantation.

      The Center’s core missions include delivering high-level medical, surgical and nursing care, both inpatient and outpatient, before and after transplantation, as well as teaching (undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing education) and clinical/translational research. The CTO operates in an interdisciplinary manner with the other sectors, units, services, and departments involved.

      Main missions:

      • Lead, organize, and manage the development of all activities of a university organ transplant service.
      • Ensure and strengthen the expertise and quality of the service’s surgical and clinical missions, while developing multidisciplinary and inter-institutional collaborations in line with the strategic directions of the CHUV’s Surgery Department (DC), the Romandy University Transplant Center (CURT Vaud-Genève), and the CHUV Strategic Plan.
      • Bring teams together and develop high-level clinical and academic research, funded by peer-reviewed external grants.
      • Active participation in the Swiss Transplant Cohort Study (STCS).
      • Ensure and lead the faculty’s missions in undergraduate teaching (according to the needs of the UNIL FBM), as well as postgraduate and continuing education, in collaboration with the various departments of the CHUV.
      • Ensure a high-quality next generation in surgical, medical, and scientific transplant field; consolidate the external clinical and academic reputation and visibility; and collaborate with the hospitals of the Fédération des Hôpitaux Vaudois (FHV) and with the cantonal hospitals working with the CHUV, in particular the French-speaking Swiss cantons within the framework of the CURT.

      Desired profile:

      Medical degree (Swiss or recognized MEBEKO equivalent qualification required) and MD or MD-PhD

      ISFM Specialist title (ISFM or recognized MEBEKO equivalent qualification required) – two possible profiles:

      • In surgery with a sub-specialization related to transplantation. Experience in robotics and new technologies (procurement and transplants) is an asset.
      • In general internal medicine with a sub-specialization related to transplantation.

      Professional experience:

      • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a university hospital internationally recognized for organ transplantation, and specific experience with organs from non-heart beating donors
      • Additional certification in transplantation (European Board of Surgery and its transplantation subspecialities or American Board in transplantation accredited by AST or ASTS).
      • Recognized managerial skills, particularly in team leadership and project management.
      • Ability to set up clinical and translational research programs supported by peer-reviewed external funding.
      • Scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
      • Academic knowledge and expertise at a professorial level, with proven experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
      • Proficiency in French (native or C1 level ideal, minimum B2 with the ability to improve quickly).

      Social skills:

      • Proven capability to collaborate effectively across different surgical and medical departments, as well as in an inter-institutional setting (national and international).
