The recruited PhD students will work in a wide range of projects. The projects collectively show how sustainable forestry research combines advanced monitoring tools, ecological studies, and genetic approaches. They range from using remote sensing and bioacoustics to track forest conditions, to examining soil and microbial processes that support ecosystem resilience, to developing genetic strategies that improve tree performance under climate change.
The WIFORCE Research School
Biodiversity and the role of forests in climate change are now key social issues that require more knowledge. In order to both sustainably use forests and safeguard forest biodiversity, a coherent basic science research program is needed that addresses large and complex issues and develops new analytical tools. That’s why the WIFORCE Research School, part of the Wallenberg Initiatives in Forest Research, www.slu.se/en/wiforce, was created at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Sweden.
