🚨 Recruiting PhD students and Postdoctoral researchers to investigate male (in)fertility with cryo-ET!
🔬 1. We’re recruiting 2 PhD candidates (VIB-VUB center of Structural Biology, Belgium) to investigate how molecular assemblies in human sperm are organized in situ and how this relates to male fertility.
You will combine cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), subtomogram averaging and expansion microscopy to map/model sperm structures across length scales, supported by state-of-the-art cryo-EM facilities and computing infrastructure in a collaborative environment with a local fertility clinic.

We’re also recruiting 2 postdoctoral fellows for an European Research Council (ERC)-funded project (VIB-VUB center of Structural Biology, Belgium) on sperm centrosome reduction and its role in early embryonic divisions and unexplained male-factor infertility.
The project sits at the interface of molecular and cell biology with a strong emphasis on electron microscopy. You will develop and apply cryo-FIB lamella preparation, cryo-ET and subtomogram averaging to resolve centrosomal assemblies in near-native contexts, and connect structure to function with human tissue immunohistochemistry and complementary assays in close collaboration with a fertility clinic. You will have direct access to a state-of-the-art cryo-EM facility and modern computing infrastructure.
