      The Opportunity
      This 3-year, fully-funded “Elizabeth Shields PhD Studentship” focuses on the intersection of immunotherapy and regenerative medicine. The research investigates how Regulatory T cells (Tregs) can be modulated to improve the success of liver regeneration and cell replacement therapies for liver failure.
      Key Research Goals:

      • Enhance Engraftment: Modulate Treg levels to improve the survival of transplanted regenerative cells.
      • Long-term Repopulation: Test Treg modulation to support the sustained growth of engrafted cells.
      • Prevent Failure: Investigate if acute liver failure can be avoided by reconditioning the liver environment.
        Candidate Requirements
      • Academic Background: First or upper second-class UK honours degree (or equivalent) in Biomedical Sciences, Immunology, or Biology.
      • Desired Skills: Experience in flow cytometry, in vivo animal models, cell culture, or molecular biology.
      • Eligibility: Open to candidates eligible for UK Home Fee rate.
