The Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg, Germany is offering two Postdoctoral Positions in molecular biology/evolutionary immunology (m/f/d). The positions will be available in the Boehm department (www.ie-freiburg.mpg.de/boehm). The Boehm group addresses a number of cutting-edge research questions related to the development and evolution of the vertebrate immune system.
The ideal candidates are experienced both in bioinformatic analyses of transcriptome and genome data, and in general immunological techniques and animal handling, including tissue transplantation.

The Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics (MPI-IE) in Freiburg, Germany is an interdisciplinary research institution that conducts basic research in two key areas of modern biology: Immunobiology and Epigenetics. Central questions address the molecular basis of cell type identities, as they are regulated during immune cell differentiation, metabolic response and epigenetic chromatin adaptation.
Your work will focus on the characterization of immune systems in non-model organisms. You will work in close collaboration with the group´s scientists, who address several aspects of the lamprey immune system. You will have access to the core facilities of the institute, including an excellent sequencing facility.
Project 1 focuses on the haematopoietic system of lampreys (see Nature 470, 90-94, 2011;Science Immunology 5, eaba0925, 2020; Annual Review Immunology 36, 19-42, 2018.
Project 2 concerns the analysis of the immune system of teleosts (see Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA110, 4327, 2013; Science, DOI: 10.1126/science.aaz9445, 2020; Annual Review Genomics Human Genetics 13, 127, 2012).
Applicants should possess an academic degree plus a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry, molecular biology or a related field and a strong publication record. We are looking for a dedicated and motivated team player with strong communication skills and good command of the English language.
