We are offering an 80% position for 3 years subject to appropriation of funding at our location in Müncheberg as: Researcher – Long-term Field Experiments (f/m/d)


The mission of the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) as a nationally and internationally active research institute is to deliver solutions for environmentally, economically and socially sustainable agriculture – together with society. ZALF is a member of the Leibniz Association and is located in Müncheberg (approx. 40 minutes by regional train from Berlin-Ostkreuz).
ZALF contributes with several subprojects to the collaborative project “BonaRes” (Soil as a Sustainable Resource for the Bioeconomy, www.bonares.de), funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Within this context, a repository for data from long term field experiment (LTE) has been established as part of the larger BonaRes Repository for soil research data. It includes a georeferenced web-application with comprehensive LTE meta-data information.

Your tasks:

You manage and further develop the LTE repository including the interactive web-application. You interact with LTE operators, both nationally and internationally, to support the curation, storage, maintenance and metaanalysis of LTE data. You collaborate closely with the BonaRes Data Centre team and the Agricultural Landscape Systems group for the enrichment, analysis and exploitation of the LTE repository.

In particular, you:

 Organise the scientific networking among LTE operators nationally and internationally
 Coordinate and support the data and meta-data preparation for uploading to the repository
 Manage and further develop the international overview map and LTE meta-data schema
 Analyse and exploit the use of LTE data for meta-analyses and modelling activities on soil dynamics, climate change impact and scenario analyses
 Initiate joint multi-author publications with LTE data holders

Your qualifications:

 PhD in agricultural sciences, soil science, environmental sciences or a related field of study
 Very good understanding of the interactions between agricultural soil management, soil processes and soil functions
 Experience with long-term field experiments
 Experiences in modelling and data processing
 Good familiarity with metadata and data standards
 Excellent writing skills and solid publication record
 High degree of personal initiative, excellent communication and teamwork skills in an interdisciplinary environment
