We are looking for a new Postdoc to join the lab lab of Manolis Fanto to study the mechanism of neuronal cell death in Frontotemporal Dementia in collaboration with Agnes Nishimura and Sarah Mizielinska at the Maurice Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute.
The project will employ cell cultures (including iPSC-derived neurons) to study karyoptosis, a recently defined form of cell death based on destruction of the nuclear lamina. The project focuses on models of C9Orf72-based FTD and ALS and, in particular, on the effects of Di-Peptide-Repeats that accumulate inside the nucleus. Bio-ID proteomics and quantitative cell biology will be used as methodology.
The position is available starting from Jan 2021 for up to 29 months. The recruited fellow will also be encouraged to apply for additional funding. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong background in either cell cultures or biochemistry, capable of working independently on this project, whilst integrated into a larger group. Enthusiasm, determination, resilience, and ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential, as well as good experimental proficiency as evidenced by first author publications or manuscript under consideration.
