Description of Work | A postdoctoral research associate position with competitive salary and benefits is available under the supervision of Dr. Byron Chaves (Department of Food Science and Technology) and Dr. Hiep Vu (Department of Animal Science and Nebraska Center for Virology) to work on the intersection of food safety and COVID-19. The incumbent’s home department will be Food Science and Technology and will be primarily located in the Food Innovation Center, Nebraska Innovation Campus (Lincoln, NE). The postdoctoral associate will design, conduct, analyze, and publish experiments on the survival and persistence of various BSL2 viruses in meat and poultry matrices and associated surfaces with the goal of identifying suitable surrogates for SARS-CoV-2 studies in food. Minimum Required Qualifications | PhD in Food Science, Animal Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Veterinary Sciences, Virology, or related fields. Strong laboratory experience and excellent technical skills in microbiology, cell culture, biochemistry, and molecular biology are required. Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to work both independently and cooperatively within a multi-cultural team are essential qualifications. |
Preferred Qualifications | Experience working in BSL3 environments is a plus. |
