The Intelligent Particle Pharmaceutical Research Group of the National University of Cork in Ireland cooperated with Eli Lilly and Company of the United States to recruit a full scholarship doctoral student. The research direction is machine learning simulation with multi-scale physical models. This position is sponsored by Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals, free of tuition, and an annual research grant of €16,000 and €5,000 research funding; during the doctoral period, there will be opportunities to visit Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals and Newcastle University in the United Kingdom.
In addition, University of Cork has cooperation agreements with the CSC, the Irish government and the European Union. Interested masters and Ph.Ds are welcome to apply for the corresponding doctoral or post-doctoral cooperation funding projects. For details, please contact [email protected]
# PhD Project
Ireland It is a gathering place for European pharmaceuticals. There are currently more than 120 multinational pharmaceutical companies producing and operating in Ireland. Pharmaceuticals is a research-intensive industry. Ireland has invested more than 7 billion euros in pharmaceutical research in the past ten years alone. At the same time, the pharmaceutical industry is transitioning from traditional intermittent production to continuous production of personalized medicines in small batches. This transformation is inseparable from the support of digital twin technology based on reliable mathematical models. In recent years, the development of sensors and process analysis technology (pat) has made it easier to obtain real-time monitoring data of the pharmaceutical process; at the same time, the rapid development of big data artificial intelligence technology has prompted machine learning technology to penetrate into the development and production of innovative drugs in the future. All aspects. The traditional machine learning model relies on a large amount of learning data, and the prediction results are difficult to generalize and explain; while the multi-scale simulation based on physical laws requires only a small amount of data correction and has good universality. This Ph.D. project will focus on how to deeply and organically integrate data-driven machine learning models and multi-scale models rich in physical mechanisms, and try to build machine learning models embedded in physics, and apply them to particle and biological agent processes (including but not limited to Multiphase fluidized bed, grinding granulation and bioreactor). This project will have close exchanges and cooperation with the Biopharmaceutical Center of Newcastle University in the United Kingdom and the scientific research team of Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals.

University College Cork (Ucc), located in Cork, Ireland’s second largest city, is one of the top universities in Ireland and a world-renowned research institution. It is one of the three Queen’s Colleges (University of Cork, University of Galway, Queen’s University of Belfast), one of the oldest universities in Ireland, and affiliated to the National University of Ireland. ucc was founded in 1845, and in 2021, it ranks among the top 300 in qs in the world. Among them, science and engineering research strength ranks in the top 100 in the world, pharmacy and pharmacology ranks in the top 50 in the world, and food science is ranked in the top 5 in the world. In addition, UCC is the first five-star university in Ireland. It has won the title of University of the Year for three consecutive years. In 2013, it became the first university of its kind in the world to win the green campus award and the first university to obtain the green flag status renewal.
