We have an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher to develop a comprehensive experimental program of fission studies using inverse kinematics reactions with relativistic beams. The successful candidate will be responsible to deliver and validate high-precision isotopic identifications of primary fission fragments from unstable isotopes for which there are limited experimental or evaluation data. This position is in the Nuclear Physics and Particle group of the Nuclear and Chemical Sciences Division. Essential_Duties Develop in-house expertise for inverse kinematics reactions with relativistic beams. Verify the usefulness of the inverse kinematic measurements with those measured in direct kinematics using real photon or neutron beams. Perform data analysis and interpret the results of experiments Develop simulations of neutron and photon transport and detector response performance Participate in the overall program of performing precision studies of nuclear fission. Document and publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific publications and present results at external conferences, seminars and/or technical meetings. Collaborate with other scientists and technical personnel to accomplish research goals. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications PhD in experimental nuclear physics or closely related field. Ability to develop independent research projects through publication of peer- reviewed literature. Experience with accelerator-based neutron and photon physics experiments and nuclear spectroscopy. Experience with programming in C++ and/or FORTRAN programming languages. Experience performing analysis using ROOT, MCNP or GEANT. Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to work in a multidisciplinary team environment, author technical and scientific reports and publications, and deliver scientific presentations. Documented publication record in peer-reviewed literature with experience presenting research results to a large audience.
