The Arizona State University’s College of Health Solutions (CHS) Nutrition Sciences program is seeking two full-time, academic year (9-month) tenure-eligible faculty members at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in the area of basic nutrition sciences.

The anticipated start date is Fall of 2021, but may be negotiable. Preferred research focus areas of applicants include those related to nutrition-related obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, immunology, and endocrinology.

Successful applicants will contribute to the university’s mission through teaching, research, and service. We seek applicants who will contribute to our nutrition program and expand our interdisciplinarity and translational research collaborations within CHS, with other academic units throughout the university, and with external institutions and community partners. Successful applicants will teach both undergraduate and graduate courses online and on-ground, and mentor students in research and professional development. Service to the college, university, and community is expected.

For the rank of Assistant Professor, preferred applicants should have postdoctoral research experience in the related fields. Exceptions may be given to outstanding doctoral students who will complete a doctorate degree prior to appointment. For the rank of Associate Professor, applicants must have a nationally or internationally recognized research program, as well as a record of excellence in teaching and mentoring students and in service.

This position will also work with faculty across the college to address our Grand Challenges, complex and difficult health problems which require translational research, transformative collaboration and innovation. Through research, academic programs and service, the college is focused on these Grand Challenges: Addressing the systems of health care and the health needs of populations, and optimizing health and human performance of individuals across the lifespan. We are particularly interested in making an impact on populations with significant health disparities. Responsibilities for this position include developing and maintaining a successful research program, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, mentoring students and junior faculty (depending on rank), and providing service to the program and university as well as to the community and profession. The ideal applicant will present evidence of a successful research trajectory commensurate with the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, including extramural funding and peer-reviewed publications, and a strong commitment to high quality teaching and mentoring.

The College of Health Solutions is committed to translating scientific health research and discovery into practice to improve health outcomes through education, research and service. Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate or terminal degree (PhD, ScD, MD/DO, DrPH) in nutrition, medicine, or other related disciplines such as physiology, Immunology, endocrinology, biochemistry, biological sciences, molecular biology, etc.
  • Evidence of a sustained history or potential of peer reviewed publications in high-impact journals and obtaining extramural funding commensurate with the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor
  • Evidence of successful teaching at the university level related to the field of nutritional sciences appropriate to the applicant’s rank
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate work and communicate effectively with a diverse group of students, colleagues, and staff

Desired Qualifications

  • Research focus in one or more nutrition-related diseases including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, immunology, and endocrinology, and/or research in the area of nutrition science relevant to the needs of the Arizona’s diverse populations and the college’s Grand Challenges
  • Demonstrated commitment to multidisciplinary, translational and innovative research for improving human health
  • Evidence of a successful history of obtaining extramural funding from highly competitive sources such as NIH, PCORI, CDC, NSF, similar federal mechanisms, and/or foundations
  • Demonstrated success in promoting student retention and/or graduation
  • Evidence of active involvement in university, community, and professional service commensurate with the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor
